Summary of 2011 Ohio Peregrine Falcon Nesting Season
Ohio Division of Wildlife staff monitored 39 sites with territorial falcon pairs, as well as 5 sites with single birds. There were 2 new sites with territorial pairs this year, up from 37 pairs the year previous.
Of the 39 sites with pairs, we confirmed 34 pairs produced at least 111 eggs, and 24 nest sites fledged 67 young falcons. Hatch rate was estimated to be 70%, slightly above last year's 67%. Hatch rate differences between the last few years have been small and likely due to normal annual variations such as changes in environmental conditions (e.g., weather) and a greater number of new or young pairs breeding.
