The Columbus Nest

Here are some of the many highlights captured during the nesting season.

Photo notes:
The nest box is located on the south side of the Rhodes Tower on the 41st floor.

Photo notes:
At night falcons may sleep on the top of a window-washing apparatus.

Photo notes:
Access to the ledge on the south side of the building is through a small panel (see red arrow) located in the HVAC facility.

Photo notes:
A Peregrine’s-eye view of the Capitol.

Photo notes:
Porcupine wire is used to encourage the falcons to perch on the platform in front of the camera to assist us in viewing leg bands.

Photo notes:
The nest box and second camera at the west end of the ledge.

Photo notes:
An eastward-looking view of camera one with its wire protection, the platform that raises the birds to camera view, and the ledge. The second camera is focused on the nesting box.

Photo notes:
Site manager and Ohio Division of Wildlife biologist Donna Daniel takes in a view from the ledge on the Rhodes Tower. The nestbox is just behind her shoulder.
