ESTUARY EDUCATION SERIES CONTINUES AT OLD WOMAN CREEK
NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE
Huron, OH – Ohioans are encouraged to join Division of Wildlife staff, guest naturalists, and scientists for fun-filled and free educational explorations of Old Woman Creek, a unique and protected Lake Erie estuary. Learn to design and build a rain garden, identify trees by leaf characteristics, or relax and enjoy sketching plants and wildlife.
Estuaries like Old Woman Creek protect Lake Erie by removing pollutants from streams. They also buffer coastal communities against flooding and erosion. Home to a wide variety of wildlife and plants, estuaries help support a $680 million fishery and nearly $6 billion tourism industry along the Lake Erie coast.

Mussels of Lake Erie Saturday, June 7 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Discover the diversity of freshwater mussels in Lake Erie and its tributaries with a visiting scientist.
Canoe Old Woman Creek Estuary Thursday, June 12 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Enjoy up-close viewing of wetland birds and plants and learn how the estuary protects Lake Erie. Pre-registration required: call 419-433-4601. Age limits apply.
Trees on the Trail Saturday, June 14 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Increase your ability to identify trees by leaf characteristics on a guided forest hike.
Sketch the Seasons at Old Woman Creek Saturday, June 21 10:00 am -12:00 pm
Create your own artistic impression of plants and wildlife that call the estuary home with a visiting artist.
Adopt-A-Highway Clean-Up Sunday, June 22 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Take part in a group effort to clean up litter along U.S. Route 2 and State Route 61near Old Woman Creek estuary.
