FREE FISHING FOR YOUNG ANGLERS AT AKRON YOUTH PONDS
Anglers 15 years and youngster encouraged to enjoy free, accessible fishing in Akron
AKRON, OH – Beginning Saturday, May 24, anglers 15 years of age and under will be able to experience the fun and excitement of fishing at the popular ODNR Division of Wildlife Youth Fishing Area located at 912 Portage Lakes Drive in Akron. The Area will be open for fishing from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. every Saturday and Sunday as well as Memorial Day (Monday, May 26), Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 1).
“Anglers are welcome to bring their own equipment, but we have plenty to loan and bait is provided too,” said Matt Wolfe, fisheries biologist who oversees the Youth Fishing Area. “Youngsters will catch of variety of good-sized fish; the ponds are well stocked and very accessible.”
Young anglers can fish all day and catch as many fish as they like but they can only take one fish home per day. All young anglers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while in the youth area, but the adults are not required to have a fishing license. Adults are not allowed to fish in the youth area, but may assist their young anglers. An attendant will be on duty to answer any questions and offer assistance. Fishing poles, bait, and tackle are provided, and picnic tables and restroom facilities are available. The Youth Fishing Area is open May 24 through Monday, September 1st (Labor Day).
