SPECIAL YOUTH TURKEY HUNTING DRAWINGS ON APRIL 5, 2008
AKRON, OH – The ODNR Division of Wildlife will offer special opportunities for young hunters seeking wild turkeys this spring. In addition to the statewide youth turkey hunting days April 19 and 20 on both public and private lands, the Division of Wildlife will be holding drawings on Saturday, April 5, 2008 for special, controlled turkey hunting opportunities for youths at the Killbuck Marsh and Mosquito Creek Wildlife Areas as well as the Ravenna Training and Logistics Site. Hunters 17 years and under must be present at all locations in order to participate in the drawings and must bring a valid 2008 hunting license.
The drawing for Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area Refuge will take place on Saturday, April 5th. Interested youngsters must attend the drawing, held at Killbuck Valley Sportsmen’s Club, located two miles southwest of Holmesville and one mile west of State Route 83. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the drawing will begin at 1:00 p.m. The drawing will coincide with a National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) JAKES field day event sponsored by local chapters of the NWTF.
Also on April 5th, there will be two additional drawings for youth turkey hunting opportunities. One drawing is for hunting opportunities at the Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area and the other is for the Ravenna Training and Logistics Site. A “Youth Turkey Hunting Day” sponsored by the Trumbull Federation of Conservation Clubs and Trumbull Rod and Gun Club will begin at 9:30 a.m. where youngsters can participate in shooting sports and other activities. Lunch will be provided. Registration for the youth day will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Trumbull Rod and Gun Club, 6575 Phillips-Rice Road (one mile north of State Route 88) and the drawings will take place at 1:00 p.m. Youths not wishing to participate in the event may register anytime prior to the drawing.
