TWO EDUCATOR WORKSHOPS TO BE OFFERED IN PORTAGE COUNTY
Workshops are back-to-back on October 12th at West Branch Reservoir in Wayland

AKRON, OH – Educators and others who are interested are encouraged to attend two workshops on Friday, October 12th, 2007. The workshops will take place at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor’s Center on Wayland Road near the dam of West Branch Reservoir.

The new Flying WILD program will be offered in the morning followed by Science & Civics in the afternoon. Both programs are related to the national Project WILD program administered by the Division of Wildlife in
Ohio
Flying WILD is an exciting new program of the Council for Environmental Education. It introduces middle school students to bird conservation through school bird festivals, hands-on classroom activities, and community service projects.   The cost is $12 which covers a 358 page Educator’s Guide. The J.T.Huston-Dr.J.D.BrumbaughNatureCenter of MountUnionCollege serves as a city sponsor for this program.

Science & Civics: Sustaining Wildlife is a program to involve 9th to 12th grade students in an environmental action project to benefit the local wildlife and community. The guide is designed around the same framework as Project WILD, but it is designed to involve young people in decisions affecting people, wildlife and the habitat they share in their community. This curriculum can help students and teachers effectively meet science and social studies standards as well as service learning requirements.  Science and Civics materials are distributed at no charge from the Ohio Division of Wildlife.

To register for the workshops contact Cheryl Mattevi at (330) 337- 3956 or
c.mattevi@att.net  Participants may attend either or both workshops.
