Clermont County Men Serve Time in Jail for Deer Poaching

Xenia, oh – Tips phoned in to the Clermont County wildlife officer have led to the conviction of two Clermont County men on charges related to the illegal harvest of white-tailed deer, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

On November 20, 2007 both Charles W. and David Scott Parker appeared in the Clermont County Municipal Court before Judge Anthony Brock and plead “no contest” and were both found guilty. Charges included hunting without a deer permit, hunting deer without a license, taking deer during a closed season, taking more than one antlered deer per license year, possessing deer parts without tag, seal or certification and taking deer with a rifle.

Charles (Chuck) W. Parker, 38 of Bethel, received 300 days in jail with 290 days suspended (he served 10 days in the Clermont County Jail), $3200 restitution for eight trophy bucks, $225 fine plus court costs, five year hunting license revocation, five years monitored probation, 80 hours community service, and forfeiture of a PSE bow, and numerous sets of deer antlers and mounts.

David “Scott” Parker, 36 of New Richmond, received the 180 days in jail with 177 days suspended (he served three days in the Clermont County Jail), $400 restitution for one trophy buck, $100 fine plus court costs, 5 year hunting license revocation, five years monitored probation, eight hours community service, and forfeiture of a Marlin .22 magnum rifle.

The investigators with the Division of Wildlife began their investigation in 2005 after Clermont County wildlife officer Terry Glynn received information from several concerned citizens involving illegal hunting methods and possible sale of whitetail deer parts on E-bay. Complaints were also phoned in to the Turn-In-A-Poacher (TIP) program. Officers found the Parkers in possession of untagged and illegally harvested deer parts.
The Division of Wildlife’s TIP line continues to curtail wildlife violations across the state by encouraging citizens to report any illegal activity they observe. Tips may be phoned anonymously to 1-800-POACHER.
