Findley Lake

The 84-acre lake and 850-acre state park located near Wellington in Lorain County is another of northern Ohio’s hidden treasures that many residents and nonresidents seem to pass by on their way to larger lakes

Findley Lake provides great boating opportunities as well as other types of outdoors recreation that can be found throughout the heavily wooded and scenic state park. The lake limits boaters to the use of hand-powered vessels and those equipped with electric motors only, which ensures a quiet setting on the lake. Canoes and paddleboats can be seasonally rented at the marina. Boats also may be placed in the water at two public launch ramps located here.

Boaters should also consider wetting a line as fishing opportunities for crappie, bluegill and largemouth bass are rated good.

Park visitors also can enjoy 10 miles of hiking trails that include a portion of the famed statewide Buckeye Trail. Included is a scenic loop trail that originates at the park check-in building. Summer nature programs, a 435-foot beach and picnic shelters also provide a nice addition to the boating and fishing activities enjoyed on the lake.

Boat camping remains popular and the state park’s 272 non-electric campsites offer a rustic and peaceful setting to enjoy your stay here. A dump station, modern restroom and shower facilities, laundry facilities, three camper cabins and a group commissary area available. Pets are permitted in designated areas.

Findley Lake is located 42 miles north of Mansfield, 42 miles southwest of Cleveland and 50 miles west of Akron.

The nearby Spencer Wildlife Area includes a 70-acre lake open for public fishing and a 550-acre area for hunting. Boat launch ramps are located on both sides of the lake. Boats that are hand-powered or powered by electric motors only are permitted on the lake. Boaters and anglers commonly fish for largemouth bass, channel catfish and bluegills in this wildlife area lake.
