CJ Brown Reservoir
The 2,120-acre lake is located within Buck Creek State Park near Springfield in Clark County.
Boaters enjoy the unlimited horsepower lake and utilize two launch ramp locations, including the four-lane main launch facility. A marina on the lake offers more than 200 dock rentals, overnight dockage, marine fuel, snack bar and bait shop.
A designated boat swim area is located at the east end of the lake just below the campground area. The lake also contains a 2,400-foot sandy beach. Boaters who wish to camp can select from among 22 non-electric and 89 electric campsites in the state park campground. Showers, restrooms and dump stations are available. The park additionally offers for rent 26 family cottages and features a 7 ½ mile hiking trail as well as 7 ½ mile bridle trail.
The flat terrain of west-central Ohio can increase the effects of windy conditions on the lake. With its size and unlimited horsepower restriction, the lake is well-suited to various types of boating activities.
Popular among boaters and anglers, CJ Brown Reservoir offers very good fishing opportunities for walleye that generally measure 13 to 20 inches and white bass that measure 10 to 13 inches. Fishing opportunities are rated good for bluegill, crappie and channel catfish.
The reservoir and state park lands are administered by authority of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in agreement with the ODNR. CJ Brown reservoir is located just north of U.S. Route 40 and Interstate 70 five miles from downtown Springfield, 48 miles west of Columbus, and 77 miles northeast of Cincinnati.
