Shrink Wrap Recycling

The Ohio Clean Marinas Program and its partners, that include the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association, encourage boaters, marina operators, and greenhouse facility operators to recycle their plastic shrink wrap this season by taking it to a collection site and keeping it out of local landfills.Collections will be taken May 1 through June 15.

• Sandusky Harbor Marina, 1 Huron Street, Sandusky
• Spitzer Riverside Marina, 485 California Avenue, Lorain

Thanks to an innovative recycling program coordinated with Mondo Polymer Technologies, Inc. of Reno, Ohio, more than 1.7 million pounds of plastic shrink wrap have been recycled since 2006 and made into nearly 250,000 highway guardrail blocks that help make over 300 miles of Ohio roadways safer and reduce landfill content.

"Program participants help strengthen the environmental stewardship of the marine industry by setting an example of how marinas can protect and enhance Ohio's environment," said Sarah Orlando, Ohio Clean Marinas Program manager.
