Information necessary for consulting firms to conduct a well log area search.

NOTE: As of September 8, 2009, the Division of Soil and Water Resources can no longer provide the service of searching and compiling the located or unlocated water well records within a customer's desired radius.

There are 4 types of on-line locational water well record searches: Map-based, Radius, Area, and Polygon.
  • Map-based Search - Zoom into your area of interest.  Located wells will appear as blue dots.
  • Radius Search - enter latitude and longitude for 1 point and then click on a predetermined radius of either 2000 feet, 1/2 mile, 1, mile, 1.5 miles, or 2 miles.
  • Area Search - enter latitude and longitude for 1 point and then specify the distance from that point in the north, south, east, and west directions that you would like to create a rectangular study area.
  • Polygon Search - enter the latitudes and longitudes for 4 points.  The program connects these four points to create your study area.

All the water well records that lie within the designated area will be returned.  From the results of search page, you can download the images and/or a database of any or all of the returned well records.  Within the database will be the coordinates for each well.

The map-based search will allow you to print out maps showing well locations. The radius, area and polygon searches do not create maps of well locations.  However you may download well log data from these search results for use in creating your own maps.

For most counties, less than half of the water well records have known coordinates.  If you want to search the database for both the located and unlocated well records, please use the Custom Data Search.  If you do not want to use our on-line method, you can come to our office to search the paper files. Our office hours are 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Monday-Friday.

If you have questions or need help using our on-line database search tools, please call Jim Raab at 614-265-6747.
