Floodplain Management Program

This website contains information on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Self-assessment Survey.  The survey is designed to provide the Floodplain Management Program with the information necessary to determine if a community has an NFIP compliant floodplain management program.  The survey is sent to communities that apply for federal mitigation grant programs such as the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).  However, your community’s local floodplain administrator can complete the self-assessment survey at any time.

The State of Ohio has prioritized effective local floodplain management and expects all HMGP recipients to be meeting NFIP responsibilities. Flooding is Ohio’s primary natural hazard and the NFIP is your community’s daily flood mitigation program.  The Floodplain Management Program will evaluate the survey response and notify your community by letter of our findings.  The survey response and subsequent follow-up provided by local officials will be used by the State of Ohio to help prioritize HMGP applicants for funding.
