Emergency Preparedness Workshops

   This year ODSO and ODNR have teamed up to present 5 workshops for dam owners to increase emergency preparedness. The workshops will present information regarding the development of Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and Emergency Preparedness Plans (EPP). ODSO members, county Emergency Management Agency officials, and ODNR will give presentations. In addition, engineers from ODNR will be present to provide one-on-one assistance to dam owners preparing EPPs.

   Five workshops are planned, one at each of the locations shown on the map to the right. Additional information regarding the location and directions can be found at the bottom of this page.

   Workshops can fill up due to limited space so we are asking that anyone wishing to attend a workshop RSVP as soon as possible.

   Recently, the Division of Water introduced the concept of a simplified version of an EAP referred to as an Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP). The EPP is a relatively short document that describes emergency conditions and lays out a procedure to follow in response to an emergency. We have found that this document has been very helpful to dam owners that have experienced emergency situations at their dams. This document can potentially save lives and property by providing early warning of potential problems and impending failure. An EPP is required for all Class I dams that do not have an EAP.
