  Wahkeena & Rhododendron Cove, Fairfield County

 

Great Rhododendron Ramble

Saturday, July 5 - 10 a.m.

In conjunction with the Ohio Historical Society, the division invites you to explore the rugged cliffs, hills and valleys of the Wahkeena and Rhododendron Cove state nature preserve complex. This hike will begin at the Wahkeena Nature Preserve's visitor center and head toward the beauty of the great rhododendron in bloom. This 3-4 hour hike is for participants in good physical condition and proper footwear is a must. Pre-registration is required and is limited to 30 participants. Parking fee $3. Chaparral Prairie, Adams County

Chaparral Prairie Open House

Sheldon Marsh, Erie County

Chestnut & Birding Walk

September 20, 10 a.m.

See Ohio's largest, surviving American chestnut on this easy ramble through the diverse habitats found at Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve. You'll also have an opportunity to see a variety of neo-tropical birds as they make their way south to their wintering grounds in South America. For more details, contact (419)

Located about 2 miles west of Huron on U.S. Route 6. Use the Rye Beach Road exit from State Route 2 and proceed west about .5 mile to the preserve entrance.

 

 


 Clifton Gorge, Greene County

 Autumn Colors Open House

October 11-12, noon to 5 p.m.

Enjoy the colors of autumn at Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve. The beauty of an Ohio state scenic, the Little Miami, combined with the spectacular gorge will delight any nature enthusiast. Preserve officers will be on hand to answer questions and share historical tales from the area. Located on State Route 343, .25 mile west of Clifton at the east end of John Bryan State Park.

 

 


 Conkle's Hollow, Hocking County

   Fall Foliage Festival

October 18-19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Conkle’s Hollow is a great place to enjoy the splendor of an Ohio autumn. Choose the accessibility of the Lower Gorge trail or the more challenging Upper Rim Trail. This event features a pioneer encampment and uniformed naturalists along the trails.
