Application Procedure For Permanent Employment Opportunities

To apply for a posted position fill out an Ohio Civil Service application:

  • Complete the entire application and list all relevant information, including an explanation of how you meet the minimum qualifications. You must meet the minimum qualifications in order to be considered for the position you are applying for.
  • Be sure to include the Position Control Number (P.C.N.) and class title listed on the posting for the specific job for which you are applying.
  • Include your resume information. Resume information should include any certification, licenses, course work or experience that is directly related to the job. Since competition for some positions is quite high, most successful candidates have a degree in a related field, specialized training or experience. Refer to the posting for descriptions of specific job duties and qualifications.

Definitions Relating To Postings:

  • Non-exempt: position is governed by union contract.
  • Exempt: position is exempt from collective bargaining, therefore, not governed by union contract.
  • Unclassified: employee is not subject to civil service examination and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
  • Classified: employee is subject to civil service examination and has employment protection under the terms of the Ohio Civil Service laws.
  • Full-time Fixed Term (established term regular):  employee has a limited duration of work (usually more that 14 weeks). These employees work a standard forty-hour week and have a starting and ending date each year.
  • Part-time Fixed Term (established term irregular): employee has a limited duration of work (usually more that 14 weeks). These employees do not have a standard forty-hour week and instead are provided an identified number of hours and have a starting and ending date each year.

Summer Employment

The Division of Parks and Recreation offers a variety of challenging entry-level summer (seasonal) positions that focus on serving the public in a natural park setting. Applicants may apply for positions such as Lifeguard, Natural Resources Aide, Natural Resources Specialist, Park Officer, and Naturalist Aide. The duration of employment varies with the position, but may extend from April to October. Available seasonal positions are filled at the park.
