COLUMBUS, OH - Learn more about the benefits of recycling and buying recycled products during Recycle, Ohio! Day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Saturday, October 2, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Visitors can register to win prizes that include a one-night stay at an Ohio State Park Resort Lodge.
The event, co-sponsored by the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, kicks off the celebration of Recycle, Ohio! Month this October. Environmental educators from the Columbus Zoo will conduct programs about recycling and related topics during the day. Families also are invited to take part in hands-on recycling activities at stations throughout the zoo.
"The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a great place to learn about resource conservation and recycling," said Ron Kolbash, chief of the Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. "Recycle, Ohio! Day offers central Ohioans an opportunity to find out more about the many benefits of recycling and how to purchase products made from recycled materials."
Visitors can learn more about the division's new recycling awareness campaign "We Got Plans For Your Bottles And Cans" at ohiodnr.com. In addition, visitors are invited to check out Habitat Hollow, a one-of-a-kind exhibit at the zoo that highlights conservation of North American habitats.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the zoo, including the Recycle, Ohio! event, is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for children ages 2 through 11, and free to children younger than 2.
