COLUMBUS, OH - An urban forestry conference to help municipal leaders effectively manage trees in public land will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, at the Dawes Arboretum in Licking County. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry will co-sponsor the event with The Dawes Arboretum, American Electric Power and The Davey Institute.
Eighty percent of Ohioans live and work within urban areas. The quality of life for them and their families is strongly dependent upon the health of the urban environment. At the urban forestry conference, natural resource experts will discuss the hows and whys of performing street tree inventories, tree maintenance strategies, recent soil compaction studies, and Sudden Oak Death. Additional topics will include ODNR's new Firewise Ohio program and a history of trees. The day will conclude with a tour of Dawes Arboretum.
The conference is geared toward mayors, administrators, city foresters, tree board members, and green industry leaders.
