COLUMBUS, OH -- Visitors to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Saturday, October 4, can exchange their used aluminum cans and plastic water and sports drink bottles for a chance to win a two-night stay at one of eight resort lodges in Ohio State Parks. The promotion is part of "Recycle, Ohio! Day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium," a special event coordinated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
The event, which is co-sponsored by ODNR, the Ohio News Network and Rumpke Recycling, will kick off October's Recycle, Ohio! Month celebration. Visitors are encouraged to bring aluminum and plastic drink containers to the zoo's parking area for recycling. Each visitor who brings a recyclable container to the zoo will receive a recycled-content product, courtesy of the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. Each person will also become eligible for the state park resort "getaway" drawing.
Environmental educators from across the state will conduct a variety of educational presentations about recycling and related topics during the day. In addition, families can take part in a variety of hands-on recycling activities located at stations throughout the zoo.
"The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a great place to learn about resource conservation and recycling," said Ron Kolbash, chief of the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. "Recycle, Ohio! Day offers central Ohioans an opportunity to find out more about the many benefits of recycling and purchasing products made from recycled materials."
Xanterra Parks & Resorts are providing the state park resort lodge gift certificates. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for children ages 2-11. Children under age 2 and under will be admitted free of charge.
