COLUMBUS, OH - More than 26,000 rainbow trout measuring 10 to 12 inches will be released into 25 Ohio lakes during October to enhance public fishing opportunities and encourage more people to fish, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
The purchase of the Castalia State Fish Hatchery three years ago has provided a boost in trout production and fishing opportunities for Ohioans.
"The popularity of our trout release program grows each year," said Gary Isbell, executive administrator of fish management and research for the ODNR Division of Wildlife. "This program provides great opportunities for fall trout fishing at accessible sites all around Ohio."
Trout releases will be conducted beginning October 13, through October 27. The daily catch limit is five trout per angler.
Anglers age 16 and older must have an Ohio fishing license. Those age 66 and older may obtain a free fishing license. An Ohio fishing license costs $15 and is valid March 1 through February 28, 2001. A one-day fishing license may be purchased for $7.
