COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio students in grades 1-12 are invited to help celebrate the importance of recycling, buying recycled products, waste reduction and litter prevention by entering their color posters in a statewide contest, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
ODNR's Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries are coordinating this year's "Earth Day To Earth Day" poster contest. Winning posters, one from each grade level, will be used in a full-color 2001-2002 "Earth Day to Earth Day" wall calendar that emphasizes the importance of recycling.
Poster entries must reflect one of the following themes: recycling, buying recycled products, waste reduction and litter prevention. Posters will be judged competitively at each grade level for creativity, use of color and relevance to contest themes.
Contest winners will be announced in March 2001. The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries will award each of the 12 student winners a U.S. savings bond worth $100 upon maturity. In addition, each winning student's classroom will receive a $100 cash award.
Only teachers can submit entries - one per grade level per classroom - to their local recycling and litter prevention program or solid waste district. Deadlines will vary according to individual programs and districts, but most will occur during the first week of November.
Last year, more than 5,000 students from across the state participated in the annual competition. For additional contest information, contact Sondra Yates at ODNR's Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention (614) 265-6333 or your local recycling and litter prevention program or solid waste district.
