WINNERS OF THE 2004 RECYCLING AND LITTER PREVENTION
CALENDAR ART CONTEST ANNOUNCED BY ODNR

COLUMBUS, OH -- Twelve Ohio students in grades one through six are winners of the thirteenth annual recycling and litter prevention calendar art contest, sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI) and The Plastic Lumber Company, Inc.

Students were asked to illustrate how litter prevention or recycling activities are conducted in Ohio. Following preliminary judging by community recycling and litter prevention programs, more than 300 posters were forwarded to the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention for final selection.

"This year's winning artwork reflects the artists' knowledge of how litter prevention and/or recycling happens in Ohio," said Ron Kolbash, chief of the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. "It's important to educate Ohio's children about the value of incorporating good waste management practices into their everyday lives."

Each of the 12 winners will receive a variety of recycled-content prizes, including a child-sized Adirondack chair and a park bench made from recycled plastic, courtesy of The Plastic Lumber Company, Inc. Both statewide and honorable mention winners will receive recycled-content T-shirts, courtesy of ISRI.

The winning artwork will be showcased in a full-color flip calendar for 2004 and used elsewhere to promote recycling and litter prevention. The calendars will be available through local recycling and litter prevention offices in December.
