COLUMBUS, OH -- Community recycling centers in Butler, Fairfield, Muskingum, Portage, Perry, Shelby and Wyandot counties will benefit from a total of $188,798 in grants from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
The grants are part of a statewide project aimed at improving efficiency at local recycling centers. Each recipient will receive up to $35,000 to deliver improved processing and marketing services for materials collected by community recycling programs in the area. A 50 percent local match is required.
This grant program is aimed at helping public and non-profit recycling centers operate more efficiently, said Ron Kolbash, chief of the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. Ohio's local governments and non-profit organizations have a strong commitment to recycling. This program is intended to complement those efforts.
Awarding of the grants completes phase two of the project. The seven recipients successfully completed phase one last year, which required hiring private consultants to conduct efficiency assessments of operations at their facilities. ODNR granted $10,000 to each at that time to help with those assessments.
