MORROW COUNTY RESIDENT NAMED ASSISTANT CHIEF
OF NATURAL AREAS & PRESERVES
AT THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

COLUMBUS, OH. – Morrow County resident Nancy Strayer was recently named assistant chief of the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Previously, Strayer served as the division’s real estate administrator.

A 20-year employee of ODNR, Strayer joined the department as a college intern in the Division of Parks & Recreation. After serving field tenures at Paint Creek State Park and Malabar Farm State Park in the early 1980s, Strayer moved to ODNR’s central office in Columbus as supervisor of statewide and seasonal naturalist programs. In 1991, she transferred to the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves where she worked in publication development, later coordinating the land acquisition program.

ODNR's Division of Natural Areas & Preserves manages a system of 123 state nature preserves, home to Ohio’s most rare botanical and animal species. The division’s work is funded, in part, by contributions to the state income tax check-off program for natural areas and by sales of Ohio’s commemorative scenic rivers license plates.

Strayer holds a bachelor’s degree from Defiance College in history/museum administration and a master’s degree from Kent State University in library science.

She lives in Johnsville, located in northern Morrow County.
