GOLL WOODS STATE NATURE PRESERVE TEMPORARILY CLOSED

TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO STORM DAMAGE

COLUMBUS, OH C Goll Woods State Nature Preserve in Fulton County will be closed to the public at least through the Mother's Day weekend due to storm damage to the preserve's trail system. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Natural Areas & Preserves, visitors cannot be permitted into the preserve until a number of fallen trees and large limbs can be removed.

On Tuesday night, a line of powerful thunderstorms and one reported tornado caused extensive damage throughout northwest Ohio. ODNR officials said that a complete assessment of storm damage at Goll Woods was not yet available. Electricity and telephone service in much of the area had not been restored by Thursday morning.

Goll Woods State Nature Preserve is located northwest of Archbold in Fulton County. The 321-acre facility is considered to be the finest old-growth woodlands to remain in extreme northwest Ohio and contains an abundance of large bur oak, white oak and cottonwood trees. It is a popular site for enjoying spring wildflowers.

While ODNR officials could not predict when the preserve might be reopened to visitors, a recorded advisory will be available next week at (419) 445-1775.
