ODNR TO BEGIN CLEAN-UP OF WOOD TREATMENT FACILITY WITHIN
MOHICAN-MEMORIAL STATE FOREST -- ALL TRAILS WILL
REMAIN OPEN DURING THE THREE MONTH PROJECT

LOUDONVILLE, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will begin clean-up next week of a former wood treatment facility within the 4,500-acre Mohican- Memorial State Forest in Ashland County. Forest officials say the project should have little, if any, impact on visitors to the forest and its trail system. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-June.

According to the ODNR Division of Forestry, the project will involve removing and replacing soils that contain a preservative once used in the treatment of wood products at the forest in the 1960s and 70s. The project will also include demolition of a storage building, woodshed and above-ground storage tank.

Following removal of the facility, the three-acre site will be revegetated with grass and trees. Only the immediate area around the project site will be closed. The nearby bridle and hiking trail will remain open.
