RECORD NUMBER OF COUNTIES TO PARTICIPATE IN 5TH ANNUAL
OHIO APPLIANCE RECYCLING ROUND-UP THIS SPRING
COLUMBUS, OH -- A record 62 Ohio counties will participate in the 5th annual Ohio Appliance Recycling Round-Up this spring, encouraging Ohioans to recycle unwanted household appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, air conditioners and freezers. As part of the "Round-Up," the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has awarded $62,000 to 31 solid waste management districts to help fund local appliance recycling activities.
"Recycling unused household appliances provides valuable scrap steel for Ohio's steel industry," said ODNR Director Sam Speck. "Ohioans who recycle appliances are conserving energy, saving natural resources and helping divert solid waste from our landfills."
The event is sponsored by the ODNR Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention, the Steel Recycling Institute, the Ohio Steel Council and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. Each year, $1,000 is awarded to participating counties and their local solid waste management district.
Last year, 28 solid waste management districts representing 54 counties collected more than 16,000 appliances during the Ohio Appliance Recycling Round-Up.
