ODNR AWARDS $36,000 IN GRANTS FOR WATERWAY NAVIGATIONAL AIDS

COLUMBUS, OH - A total of $36,000 in grants has been awarded to 10 communities so they can obtain and place navigational aids on inland waterways, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

These grants are awarded on a non-matching basis to improve boating safety for the state's estimated 3,000,000 recreational boaters. Waterways eligible for marking are: controlled areas for boating traffic, restricted areas and hazardous areas. Buoys and signs used must comply with the standard inland waterway regulatory marking system.

The Navigational Aid Grant program is administered by the ODNR Division of Watercraft and is funded through the Waterways Safety Fund, which consists of watercraft registration and titling fees, a percentage of the state gasoline sales tax and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Additional information on the navigational aids and other ODNR grant programs is available by visiting the ODNR web site at ohiodnr.com and by calling the Division of Watercraft at 614-265-6446.
