SCHULTZ APPOINTED TO WATERWAYS SAFETY COUNCIL

COLUMBUS, OH - A familiar face has returned to the Waterways Safety Council with Governor Bob Taft’s appointment of Norm Schultz to serve a new five-year term through January 31, 2008. The five-member citizen advisory council provides input on boating issues to the ODNR Division of Watercraft.

Schultz, president of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association (LEMTA) since 1973, and Executive Director of the Boating Associations of Ohio, previously served four consecutive five-year terms on the Waterways Safety Council beginning in 1982 and extending through January 31, 2002. He replaces Columbus resident Steve Ball, whose fourth consecutive council term expired January 31.

Schultz, also general manager of the Cleveland Boat Show, has been honored for his contribution and service to the recreational boating industry by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Coast Guard, Lake Erie Safe Boating Council, Greater Cleveland Boating Association and the Marine Retailers Association of America.

The Waterway Safety Council’s next meeting will be held March 27 in Columbus. Council members will be briefed by the ODNR Division of Watercraft on the status of ongoing projects and issues impacting recreational boating in Ohio. Persons interested in attending the council meeting should contact Tamara Terry at 614-265-6476.
