COLUMBUS, OH - Indian Lake State Park in Logan County has been named 2001 Entrepreneurial Park-Of-The-Year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The award recognizes an Ohio State Park with innovative business practices, excellent customer service and a high level of customer satisfaction.
Ohio State Parks Chief Dan West cited Indian Lake's impressive sales figures, wide range of park activities and strong relationship with the local private development corporation as the reasons for its recognition.
Indian Lake State Park demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit that keeps visitors coming back, West said. The community spirit of its management and staff make it an asset to Ohio State Parks and to all of Logan County.
The park's campground is one of the busiest in the state park system. The campground store posted an impressive $154,915 in sales during 2001 and has already sold $113,651 in merchandise this year! Visitors benefit from a variety of park-operated recreational concessions such as bike and boat rentals and a miniature golf course. In recent years, the park has added a BMX bike course, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and a nature center to its menu of amenities.
A strong relationship with the Indian Lake Development Corporation has reaped many benefits for the park, including assistance with the construction of a new bathing beach facility, a bike path, park benches and playground equipment. Each year, the park hosts DREDGE Day for ODNR officials, state legislators, local officials, development corporation members and park staff. The object of DREDGE Day is to better acquaint participants with issues facing Indian Lake and its surrounding community.
There are 74 Ohio State Parks encompassing more than 204,000 acres and featuring 57 family campgrounds, 36 visitor and nature centers, eight resort lodges and six golf courses.
