RECYCLING BY STATE EMPLOYEES ON THE RISE
Survey of state agencies reveals a 7 percent increase in recycling in one year

COLUMBUS, OH - More than 6.4 million pounds of materials were recycled by state employees in 2004 - a 7 percent increase from 2003 reports, according to a survey of state agencies conducted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention.

“Ohio’s state agencies are doing their part to recycle by reducing waste and saving money,” said ODNR Director Sam Speck. “Strong recycling programs make wise use of Ohio’s natural resources, reduce the material going to landfills, and cut down state costs.”

Together, the departments of Rehabilitation & Correction, Public Safety and Job & Family Services have diverted more than 4 million pounds of materials from Ohio landfills through  recycling. Rehabilitation & Correction recycled 30 percent more material in 2004 than 2003.
