ODNR TO AGAIN PROMOTE SWIM SAFETY PUBLIC AWARENESS
AT OHIO STATE PARKS THIS SUMMER

COLUMBUS, OH - Adult visitors to Ohio State Parks beaches and pools are again urged by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to SwimSafe! this summer by keeping an eye on children in their care.

Safety is an important part of a successful family outing to state parks and SwimSafe! is a reminder that in addition to packing sun lotion, beach toys and snacks, parents and adult guardians should “keep an eye on the kids” while at the beach or pool.

“Our state park beaches have been extremely safe since we introduced the SwimSafe! campaign in 2000,” said Dan West, chief of Ohio State Parks. “Families can enjoy a day of fun and remain safe by keeping an eye on the kids when they are near or in the water.”

Ohio State Parks offer 66 beaches on 47 inland lakes in addition to 10 beaches on Lake Erie. There are also 17 pools within the state park system. Last year, nearly 4 million people visited state park beaches and pools across Ohio.

SwimSafe! banners now flying at state park beaches remind adult visitors to take responsibility for themselves and the children in their charge.
