COLUMBUS, OH - Families and friends looking to give a first-class Fathers Day gift this weekend should consider taking dad fishing, suggests the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
With more than 230 inland lakes, nearly 62,000 miles of rivers and streams and more than 2 million acres on Lake Erie, incredible fishing opportunities exist across the state for beginning and experienced anglers alike, said Mike Budzik, chief of ODNRs Division of Wildlife. From farm pond panfish such as bluegill and crappie to the world famous walleye and perch fishing on Lake Erie, the Buckeye State has something for every angler.
In addition to being an exciting yet inexpensive outing, a recent national survey indicated that 87 percent of Americans consider fishing and boating a fun and relaxing way to spend recreational time with family and friends.
To experience the thrill of fishing all you need is a simple rod and reel and some bait, said Budzik. Fun and economical, fishing provides families the perfect opportunity for spending quality time together.
A resident Ohio fishing license costs $15 and gift certificates are available at more than 1,300 license outlets statewide. Anglers between the ages of 16 and 65 are required to have a valid fishing license.
Before heading out, anglers can get the latest fishing reports from across the state by calling 1-800-BUCKEYE. The weekly report offers suggestions and tips on which waterways are offering the best fishing. Call 1-888-HOOKFISH and find out the current hot spots for fishing Lake Erie.
