COLUMBUS, OH -- Ken Alvey has been appointed as deputy chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft and will begin his new duties in Columbus on June 18. Alvey currently serves as ODNR's top boating administrator for Lake Erie.
Alvey joined the ODNR Division of Watercraft as a conservationist in 1972, assigned to the division's Cleveland field office. He was promoted to Cleveland district supervisor in 1974, and became Lake Erie region manager in 1999.
"Ken's boating and administrative experience have distinguished him in his dedicated service to the Cleveland boating community," said Jeff Hoedt, chief of the Division of Watercraft. "Having his assistance focused on our statewide boating programs will be an asset to Ohio's boating programs."
Alvey replaces deputy chief Randy Smith who retires from state service in July. Pam Dillon also serves as a deputy chief in the Division of Watercraft.
As region manager, Alvey has been responsible for coordinating law enforcement, education, and public relations efforts for ODNR boating programs in the Lake Erie region from Maumee Bay to Conneaut. This also has included supervising field offices at Maumee Bay, Sandusky, Cleveland and a remote office location in Ashtabula.
In his new position as deputy chief, he will supervise boating access projects, information technology, and registration and titling functions.
Alvey, the father of two children, lives with his wife Kathleen in Brecksville.
