MICHELE E. HOFFER NAMED DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR RESOURCE CONSERVATION AT THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

COLUMBUS, OH – Michele E. Hoffer, a 20-year veteran of natural resource management and engineering, has been appointed deputy director for resource conservation at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).  ODNR Director Sam Speck announced the appointment this week.

In her new position, Hoffer is responsible for coordinating the work of ODNR’s divisions of Geological Survey, Mineral Resources Management, Recycling & Litter Prevention, Soil & Water Conservation and Water, as well as the Office of Coastal Management.

“Michele’s wealth of experience with complex resource-management issues, in policy as well as practice, makes her exceptionally well qualified to serve in this position,” Speck said.  “This has been most recently demonstrated by her able leadership of the Ohio Water Resource Council’s staff group and by her work on numerous Great Lakes issues.”

Hoffer first joined ODNR in 1985 and has since served in successively responsible positions in department’s Division of Engineering and Division of Water – where she was division chief from 1994 to 1999.   In 1999 and 2000, she served as chief engineer in the Ohio Department of Health’s Bureau of Local Services. Since returning to ODNR in 2001, she has been assistant to the director for special projects related to water resources policy, the Ohio Water Resources Council and Great Lakes issues.

Hoffer succeeds former State Senator Jim Carnes, who had served as ODNR’s deputy director for resource conservation since January 2004 and retired this past June.

A registered professional engineer (P.E.) in Ohio, Hoffer holds degrees in civil engineering and psychology from The Ohio State University.  She and her family are residents of Granville.
