NO OHIO BOATING FATALITIES REPORTED OVER BUSY JULY FOURTH WEEKEND

COLUMBUS, OH - State boating officials said Ohio did not record any boating-related fatalities over the July 4th holiday weekend, the busiest boating weekend of the year. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) did report about a dozen injury-related boating accidents occurred statewide between Friday, July 1 and Monday July 4, though most were minor injuries.

One boater died in a boating-related accident in 2004 during the July 4th holiday weekend.

“An increased presence of law enforcement agencies and their officers may have helped to reduce fatalities and critical injury accidents during the holiday weekend,” said Ken Alvey, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft.

The Division of Watercraft reported that seven Ohioans have died so far this year in boating-related accidents and that none of the victims wore a life jacket when their accidents occurred.
