COLUMBUS, OH - It is now easier than ever for vacationers to enjoy the rustic cottage and four cabents located at the southwest tip of South Bass Island State Park, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). For the first time, reservations for these Lake Erie facilities are being taken on a first come, first served basis at the park office. The park's annual reservation lottery system for its cabents and cottage has been eliminated.
The cottage and cabents (part cabin, part tent) are available for weekly rental from Memorial Day weekend through the last weekend in September. A minimum stay of one full week from Sunday to Sunday is required. Reservations may be made up to a year in advance through the Lake Erie Islands State Park (419-797-4530.) A $100 deposit is required. Cabents currently rent for $442 per week; the cottage rents for $572 per week.
Cabents offer comfortable, casual lodging for four to six people. They combine the wooden structure of a cabin with the fabric roof of a tent. Compact efficiency kitchens are equipped with stoves, sinks, refrigerators, microwaves, cookware and eating utensils. Each cabent offers a private bath with shower, and a television in the living area.
The rustic cottage sleeps up to eight people and features a dining room, bath with shower, and a fully equipped kitchen with cookware and eating utensils. A television and wood burning stove are provided in the living room. The cottage also offers a screened-in porch and a sundeck with a lake view.
The Lake Erie Island State Park Office is located at 4049 Moores Dock Road, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452. It is open year round Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Rental fees for the cabents and rustic cottage are subject to change and do not include state or county taxes.
