OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES DIRECTOR SEAN LOGAN
NAMES MICHAEL A. SLIVA TO STATE ADVISORY BOARD
COLUMBUS, OH - Sean D. Logan, director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), recently recommended Harrison County resident Michael A. Sliva to serve on the state’s new Reclamation Forfeiture Fund Advisory Board.
The seven-member board was created under legislation enacted last year that updated Ohio’s coal mining regulatory program. It is made up of a certified public accountant, a professional engineer with experience in mined land reclamation, two representatives of the forestry, agriculture or agronomy industries, a coalmine operator with performance security that does not rely on the forfeiture fund, an operator with performance security that does rely on the forfeiture fund and a member of the general public. Sliva will serve as the representative of the general public. The directors of ODNR and the Ohio Department of Insurance are ex-officio members of the board. All members are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Ohio Senate.
The board reviews reclamation forfeiture fund deposits and expenditures, performs actuarial studies, evaluates and adopts rules for determining the amount of performance security required and reports the financial status of the fund to the governor’s office every two years.
Sliva has worked in the banking industry for 26 years and is a lifelong Ohio resident from an active coalmining region.
His term on the board runs four years.
