DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 1 TO APPLY FOR NAVIGATIONAL AID
GRANTS THROUGH ODNR
COLUMBUS, OH - Local political jurisdictions and public service agencies have until November 1 to apply for 2008 navigational aid grants through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.
Earlier this year, seven public service agencies received nearly $47,000 in navigational aid grants from the division.
Application forms and grant program information are available online at ohiodnr.com and by calling the Division of Watercraft at 614-265-6446.
Navigational aid grants are awarded yearly to improve safety for Ohio's estimated 3 million recreational boaters. No match is required. Waterways eligible for navigational aid marking include controlled areas for boating traffic, restricted boating areas, and hazardous boating areas. Buoys and signs must comply with the standard inland waterway regulatory marking system, according to the ODNR Division of Watercraft.
Navigational aid grants are funded through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund, which consists of a share in the state motor fuels tax, watercraft registration and titling fees and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.
