12TH ANNUAL FOREST HERITAGE FESTIVAL SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19-20 IN DOVER
Proceeds will benefit Akron Children’s Hospital

COLUMBUS, OH – The splendor of fall foliage in northeastern Ohio will greet visitors to the 12th Annual Forest Heritage Festival, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 19 and 20 at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds in Dover. The family-oriented event benefits Akron Children’s Hospital.

Co-sponsored by New Philadelphia Wal-Mart Store and the East Central Ohio Loggers Chapter, the festival is supported by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry. Parking and admission are free.

“The festival showcases the work of professional woodland stewards and the products, tools and expertise of the forest industry,” said David Lytle, chief of the ODNR Division of Forestry. “We encourage woodland owners and other visitors to take advantage of a variety of educational activities including demonstrations of forestry techniques; equipment and tool displays; information on financial assistance and where to buy tree seedlings; discussions with professional service foresters; and networking with fellow woodland owners.”

Visitors will be entertained and educated each day by horse-drawn wagon rides, activities for kids, chain saw sculpturing and rail splitting. An old-time fiddling contest, new to the festival this year, is set for Saturday.

Timber Tina’s Lumberjills are making a return appearance, demonstrating underhand chopping, axe throwing, crosscut sawing, power hot sawing and log rolling each day in the grandstand area.

All proceeds from several fundraising activities at the festival are donated to Akron Children’s Hospital. These activities include a Saturday barbecue and charity auction, featuring Amish-crafted toys, tools, quilts, bedroom and dining room suites.

Over the years, the festival has generated more than $510,000 for the Akron Children’s Hospital. Last year, the festival generated more than $75,000.
