Camera buffs and photo aficionados are encouraged to enter this year’s “Life on Lake Erie” photo contest, sponsored by the Ohio Lake Erie Commission. The 2007 contest is open to amateur photographers taking snapshots in and around the Lake Erie watershed.

2/27/08 - Launch Ramp At Caesar Creek State Park To Close For Renovation

The North Pool Boat Launch Ramp at Caesar Creek State Park in Warren County will close for the upcoming recreational season while workers upgrade and expand the popular recreational facility. The launch ramp will close April 1 and remain closed through the Labor Day weekend.

2/21/08 - Spring Trout Releases Provide Fishing Opportunities

Public fishing opportunities will be enhanced this spring when more than 80,000 rainbow trout, each measuring 10 to 13-inches long, are released into 45 Ohio lakes and ponds, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The releases will take place between mid March and mid-May; anglers are reminded that the daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout.

2/19/08 - ODNR Announces Nearly $116,000 in Grants to Local Organizations for Spring Litter Clean-Ups

Individual towns, counties, solid waste management districts and soil and water conservation districts across Ohio will benefit this spring from $115,885 in Litter Clean-up Grants from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The grants, which range from $200 to $2,500, are aimed at encouraging community participation in April's Keep Ohio Beautiful Month activities.

Snowmobilers, skaters and anglers who might be tempted onto the Portage Lakes ice this winter are advised by ODNR to exercise particular caution. An unseasonable flow of water through the Portage Lakes, the result of high lake levels due to recent rainfalls and subsequent freezing, may cause air pockets between the water level and ice.

Top male and female archers in Ohio's upcoming National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Tournament will be awarded full, two-year scholarships to Hocking College in Nelsonville. The tournament is scheduled for February 29 as part of the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus.
