ODNR PRESENTS CHECK TO KNOX COUNTY FOR TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS
COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and its Division of Real Estate and Land Management presented a check yesterday to Knox County in the amount of $150,000 for trails improvements. The check presentation took place at the Kokosing Gap Trailhead in Mt. Vernon.
"Trails truly do improve the quality of life and boost outdoor recreational opportunities for all Ohioans," said ODNR Director Sean Logan.
These funds will be used to make improvements to two existing steel girder bridges on the Knox County portion of the Heart of Ohio Trail.
The funds came from the FY 2008 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) Non-Motorized Grants and will be used across the state to develop 1.8 miles of new trails, seal 6.5 miles of existing trails, improve three bridges and develop a tunnel.
RTP is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and aims to expand the statewide network of trails by supporting local communities' planning, development and maintenance of local trail facilities.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR web site at ohiodnr.gov for more information.
