COLUMBUS, OH -- A new, 221-acre wildlife area will be dedicated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) in Fulton County at 2:30 p.m. on August 30. Dedication ceremonies will be held on County Road L at Bean Creek.
The Tiffin River State Wildlife Area is a joint venture between the ODNR Division of Wildlife, the National Wild Turkey Federation and Pheasants Forever. Located north of Archbold, the new area, which is comprised of wooded and wetland habitat, will provide additional outdoor recreational opportunities for Ohioans.
Two-thirds of Ohio's threatened and endangered species require a wetland habitat during some point in their life cycle. In the past 200 years, Ohio has lost more than 90 percent of its wetlands.
More than 90,000 acres of land in the past 10 years have been protected as state wildlife areas. These properties have primarily been purchased through the use of hunting and fishing license fees and taxes, or have been donated by sportsmen's groups such as the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and Quail Unlimited.
