TRAVELERS ENCOURAGED TO KEEP OHIO ROADWAYS CLEAN AS
PART OF THE SECOND ANNUAL OHIO MOTORIST AWARENESS DAY APRIL 24

COLUMBUS, OH - More than 300 businesses across the state will take part in the second annual Ohio Motorist Awareness Day, April 24, by distributing car litter bags to help keep Ohio’s roadways litter free. Sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the promotion targets customers of fast food restaurants, banks and service stations.

"Careless motorists are among our worst sources for litter," said ODNR Director Sam Speck. "By targeting motorists through the businesses they deal with most, we can encourage them to keep Ohio’s roadways cleaner and more beautiful."

According to Speck, local recycling, litter prevention and beautification programs have partnered with businesses across the state for this year's promotion. Ohio Governor Bob Taft has officially designated April 24, as Ohio Motorist Awareness Day.

Last year, over 280 businesses participated in the one-day promotion by distributing 260,000 litter bags throughout the state. Ohio Motorist Awareness Day is part of Keep Ohio Beautiful Month, celebrated each April. Keep Ohio Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., is the ODNR Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention’s statewide litter prevention and beautification program.
