OHIO PADDLERS, ROWERS HAVE NEW
REGISTRATION OPTION FOR THEIR BOATS

COLUMBUS, OH - Governor Bob Taft on Friday signed into law Senate Bill 150 that gives owners of canoes, kayaks, rowboats, racing shells, rowing sculls and inflatable watercraft a new option when registering their boats, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.

The new law, which was introduced by Senator Jeffry J. Armbruster (R-North Ridgeville), allows owners of these types of watercraft to choose a special, smaller registration decal costing $20.
Owners choosing to use the traditional Ohio-shaped registration sticker will continue to pay a $15 fee to obtain two registration tags.

Senate Bill 150 also:

  • Revises the legal definition of watercraft, canoes, rowboats and inflatable watercraft.
  • For boats without a hull identification number, owners are required to obtain from the ODNR Division of Watercraft a 12-digit hull identification number prior to obtaining a registration.
