SEVERAL OHIO BOATING RULE CHANGES PROPOSED BY ODNR

COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has proposed adoption of three boating rules to correspond with newly revised federal navigation law. A public hearing on the proposed rules is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10 at the ODNR Division of Watercraft headquarters located at 4435 Fountain Square Drive in Columbus.

The proposed statewide rules include new requirements for certain boats to display placards on discharge requirements and that certain boats carry on board and maintain as a ready reference a copy of the Inland Navigation Rules.

The proposed statewide rules include requiring boats 26 feet and longer to display a sign on discharge regulations and that boats 40 feet and longer maintain an onboard, ready-reference copy of the Inland Navigation Rules.

Additionally, ODNR has proposed to amend a rule and eliminate the speed limit on Nettle Lake in Williams County. Instead, boaters would be required to observe a no-wake rule between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. The proposed rule requires that all power craft proceed in a counter-clockwise direction when operating on Nettle Lake, except when beaching the boat or going to shore.

A second proposed amended rule provides additional options for proof of identification for boat owners when registering their boats.
