ORDER OHIO CONSERVATION SEEDLINGS
BEFORE APRIL 14 FOR DELIVERY THIS SPRING
 COLUMBUS, OH - Landowners interested in planting Ohio Conservation Seedlings must place their orders before April 14 in order to receive trees for planting this spring, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. More than 20 varieties are available from the Marietta State Tree Nursery and six of those varieties are now priced at a 20 percent discount.
The one- to four-year-old, bare-rooted tree seedlings will be “lifted” from the nursery bed and distributed when planting season arrives in the different areas of the state. Available in groups of 25, a minimum total order of 100 Ohio Conservation Seedlings is required.
The Division of Forestry, the largest producer of tree seedlings in Ohio, sells more than 2,000,000 trees each year. The seedlings are sold for reforestation, wildlife habitat development, erosion control, windbreaks and other conservation projects.
More than 60 varieties of trees are grown at the nursery, including white pine, white oak, bur oak, black walnut, silver maple, Norway and white spruce, arborvitae, silky and red-osier dogwood, and paw paw. Some species, such as Ohio Buckeye, sweetgum, red oak, bald cypress, buttonbush and hazelnut are either sold out or are now available only in limited supply. Selecting the proper type of tree for a particular location and soil is essential for a successful planting. Landowners with three or more acres can receive help in choosing the right trees for their property through the Division of Forestry’s service forester program.
