Looking at Spiders

Can you draw in the other half of the spider you see here? How many legs should it have? How many legs does an insect have? How are insects and spiders the same? How are they different?

The silk a spider makes is stronger than steel. The web a spider builds with this silk helps the spider catch insects for food. See if you can make a spider web by using string or yarn between the branches of a tree.

You can put a spider’s web on a sheet of colored paper:

  1. Spray the web with White spray paint
  2. Touch the paper to the web while its wet
  3. Clip the main threads and let it dry
