Nathan Jester was recently named District Forest Manager for the Southern Region by the ODNR, Division of Forestry.
CHILLICOTHE, OH – Nathan Jester was recently named District Forest Manager for the Southern Region by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Forestry. The Southern Region consists of 14 of Ohio’s 21 state forests and is comprised of more than 184,000 acres in the unglaciated part of the state.
“We are pleased to have Nate lead the sustainable use and protection of these state forest lands,” said Robert Boyles, chief and state forester for the ODNR Division of Forestry. “Nate will be instrumental in facilitating our important work of forest resource management practices, recreational facilities, and wildfire control.”
Jester holds a Bachelor’s degree in forest resource management from West Virginia University. Before coming to ODNR, he served the Colorado State Forest Service on the Canon City District in south central Colorado. Jester most recently served as forest manager at Shawnee State Forest near Portsmouth.
Ohio’s state forests provide a multitude of environmental and economic benefits. Besides clean water, clean air, and carbon sequestration, these native hardwood forests host over 100 species of trees that provide wildlife habitat, sustainable forest products, recreational opportunities, and outstanding fall colors. Ohio’s state forests are the only lands in the state certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®, signifying independent, third-party verification of internationally recognized environmental, social, and economic standards.
The Ohio Division of Forestry promotes and applies management for the sustainable use and protection of Ohio’s private and public forestland. Visit the Division of Forestry Web site at www.ohiodnr.com/forestry.
