An agreement to promote and protect mining employees across the nation was signed between the Interstate Mining Compact and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health administration.
COLUMBUS, OH — An agreement to promote and protect mining employees across the nation was signed today between the Interstate Mining Compact (IMCC) and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health administration. Ohio is a member of the compact, and officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mineral Resources Management were on hand to commemorate this important step in furthering mine safety.

“Ohio joins other IMCC states in strengthening mine safety practices by encouraging better communications between regulatory agencies responsible for coordinating critical health and safety practices of mine workers,” said Lanny Erdos, deputy chief of the Division of Mineral Resources Management.

The memorandum of understanding will provide for an enhanced health and safety environment in our nation’s and state’s mines through more effective training opportunities and improved interagency communications.

The national Mine Safety and Health Administration administers the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 which regulates mandatory safety and health standards for the mining industry.
