ODNR Fall Events Will Showcase Traditional Activities and New Amenities

Weekly ODNR updates provide ideas for outdoor fun this season

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) welcomes Ohioans and out-of-state guests to experience the fun of traditional fall festivals, events and campouts and try new amenities and opportunities during their visits.

Ohio state parks are offering dozens of fun, family-oriented camping opportunities again this autumn. From Findley State Park to Hueston Woods, there will be campsite decorating, costume contests, pumpkin carving and much more throughout October. These family favorites are highlighted this year by some new features and events.

The brilliance of color during Ohio’s fall foliage season will add to the excitement of disc golf games, which can now be played at thirteen Ohio state parks. One of the newest disc golf courses is a 9-hole course at Dillon State Park in Muskingum County. The park also recently opened an archery range for archers who want to practice their sport or prepare for an exhilarating hunt.

ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves is also expanding outdoor recreation opportunities for its visitors this fall. On October 3, a NatureCache event will be held at Lawrence Woods in Hardin County. This is the last in this year’s popular series of Gander Mountain-sponsored events that combines naturalist-led interpretive hikes with global positioning system (GPS) technology.

In addition to the opportunities noted above, here are some upcoming autumn campouts, festivals and events:
